Small sacrifices

“If a mother rushes immediately when she hears the pleading voice of her own son,
how could we think that God wouldn’t accept your petitions, your little sacrifices,
your good deeds and your voluntary sacrifices and consider them with special tenderness and goodness?”
H.H. Paul VI, February 17, 1968
We are always surprised by the new freshness and the facility with which our children, the children of consumerism who are used to having every luxury, accept the invitation to do some little sacrifices: we suggest the sacrifices of not watching television for a week and not playing with videogames and of always smiling. Almost all children accept this. Of course it is the desire for a new world, made of peace and love, which leads them to contribute with their strength, doing what they can generously so that such a world can come true. It’s wonderful to see these children, who are still strong and free, be able to involve adults too: “My mom, eight-year old Antonio writes us, “will give up her daily cup of coffee”.
“Since Our Lady came to ask our help, we answered “Yes”. We promised Our Lady to offer ourselves to God and to help the world. Father Andrea encouraged us and gave us a very powerful weapon: the Rosary, and every night, before going to bed, I pray it. Our Lady came to ask our help, by making sacrifices: not to watch television anymore. But I think we have to do more sacrifices than that to let peace come. I want to do more sacrifices”. (Fabrizio A. – Fourth grade – Cagliari).
“We promise you that for a week we won’t watch television for Jesus and Our Lady and I will do other sacrifices too. I will help mommy and I won’t ask mommy to buy me an ice-cream and I will pray the Rosary”. (Laura F. – First grade – Cagliari)
“Dear Father Andrea, I didn’t watch television for many days, like you told us to do, it lasted for a few days, but I promise you that I will try harder not to watch television. Many kisses from Elisa L.” (Second grade – Cagliari)
“Dear Father Andrea, even if you aren’t here, I think about you. I remember that you asked us to make a little sacrifice, that is, of not watching TV for a week. I didn’t watch it for two weeks. Best regards from Giorgio M.” (Second grade – Cagliari)
“Since Father Andrea advised me not to watch television anymore, I study more. With love to all”. (Graziella B. Bergamo)
“Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Father Andrea came and talked to us about You. Blessed Virgin, You need me to save the world: I will make some little sacrifices, like not watching television, I promise you. Blessed Virgin I love you very much. I will always help you whenever you call me. I will pray with the Rosary to help the world. Mother, I give you my heart and will for eternity, save humanity”. (Elena – Second grade – Venice)
“Since Father Andrea came to visit us, my life has changed. I have been doing better at school with the advice he gave us not to watch television… And from that day I have been saying the Holy Rosary every day to let all the bad things in the world disappear”. (Giovanni A., Bergamo)
“I haven’t been watching television from the day you told me not to…” (Giovanna C. – Novara)
“Father Andrea told us not to watch television and I have kept the promise”. (Stefania C. – Fourth grade – Torino)
“You told us not to watch TV for a week and now I am doing fine. I have read some books from Monday to today”. (Mattia G., Torino)
“Today I visited the Chapel of St. Joseph and there is a very beautiful Children’s Prayer Nest, it seems as if I am with Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta, who these children resemble a lot because of their simplicity and humility. Just think, Father, that the children bow down to adore Jesus in the chapel, which is a very small place where there is a very prickly carpet; they make a lot of sacrifices; they sleep on the floor and give their snack to poor children. They read these things in a booklet you gave them on the story of Fatima, and they want to imitate the children in everything”. (Maricruz, Santo Domingo)
